Joanna Haban
I spent the first five years of my career focused primarily on family law, representing clients in court at both the Provincial and Supreme Court levels, as well as in negotiated settlements and mediations. I have since expanded my practice to include estate planning and administration, real estate conveyancing, limited civil litigation, and more.
My experience with litigation in family law has helped inform my practice in other areas. Whenever appropriate, I steer my clients towards mediation or other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to avoid the time and cost associated with a court action. However, I recognize when court action may become necessary and will proceed with whatever legal proceedings may become necessary to advocate for my clients’ rights.
I take the time to understand what drives each and every one of my clients. My goal is to ensure we are always on the same page so that my clients understand the process and their options every step of the way. My advice is rooted in the reality that what works for one client may not work for the other. At the end of the day, what I offer is practical advice that takes into consideration each client’s specific circumstances.
Away from the office, I spend time with my husband and our young son enjoying the outdoors and learning to climb trees again.
