Amrit Dhaliwal

B.BA, J.D. / Associate Counsel

Before starting my legal career, I completed a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and Tax at the University of the Fraser Valley. Why accounting and tax? Because, clearly I wanted to be the life of no parties ever.

In 2017, I decided it was time for a change of scenery and humidity levels. So, like LeBron, I took my talents to South Beach. I attended St. Thomas University in Miami, where I earned my JD in 2020.

While other students were enjoying the beach, I was getting my USA Hockey coaching certification and spending most of my free time coaching youth travel hockey in a suburb north of Miami. Coaching kids aged 9 to 18 not only taught me patience, but also how to have difficult conversations. Nothing prepares you for legal disputes quite like explaining to an angry parent why little Timmy is not getting any power play minutes – conflict resolution in its purest form.

I returned to B.C. in 2020, joined this firm as a legal assistant while completing my NCA accreditation, and never left. I articled here, survived, was called to the B.C. bar in 2023, and now practise as an associate. I was also called to the Washington State Bar in 2021, which means I can assist with cross-border legal issues—mainly so you don’t have to Google “Can I sue someone in Seattle from Surrey?”

My practice focuses on civil and corporate litigation, along with corporate acquisitions. With a foundation in accounting and tax, I approach complex legal and business challenges with both precision and practicality. I bring a useful mix of analytical thinking, obsessive attention to detail, and just enough personality to avoid being replaced by Ai.

Outside the office, I stay active—mostly to justify post-game beverages. While I may not scream “athlete” at first (or fifth) glance, I am mildly athletic, and I play hockey and golf whenever I can.
